

Michael Anthony McDermott of Montgomery Village, Maryland passed away peacefully at his home on October 21st 2021. He is survived by his loving wife Janice, son Kevin, and beloved granddaughters Baillie and Maddie McDermott He is preceded in death by his sons Joseph and Brian.
Michael grew up in Rocky River, Ohio and moved to the DC area where he met Janice, who would become his wife of more than 53 years. They would go on to raise three boys and build a stable and loving family.
Michael began his professional career as an engineer at the National Bureau of Standard which would become the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg. After travels outside of the DC area, he returned with his family to complete his career at NIST.
In retirement, Michael stayed active, trying his hand as a videographer at the Kennedy Center, as a Steward on the C&O canal, and spent a year in Querétaro Mexico volunteering for the Peace Corps.
In addition to his wife, son, and granddaughters, Michael is survived by his brothers Philip, David, and Mark, and sister Mary as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that he met throughout the many adventures in his life.
Visitation will be held at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg on October 26 from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church at 10:30.
