

He was the son of Angelo and Linda (Sapountzi) Demer, and grew up in Washington DC and Silver Spring, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland, and was an U.S. Army veteran. He had a 40 year career with the Federal Government, and served as a procurement expert with the Naval Sea Systems Command, Naval Air Systems Command, and the Department of Energy, where he culminated his career as an Acquisition Team Leader.
Nickolas had a passion for photography and took many pictures over the years to celebrate special occasions. He generously shared the pictures with family and friends reflecting his skills as an amateur photographer.
He was a lifelong member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Vilagi) Demer, his son, Matthew Demer and wife Kara, and was the proud Papou of Nickolas and Sofia Demer. He is survived by cousins, Valerie (Ken) Mayer, and Alex (Mia) Sapountzis, and their children, Kenny (Carolyn) and Gregory Mayer, and Christian and Landon Sapountzis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his Thía Helen Sapountzi, Uncle Takis (Aliki survives) Sapountzis, and lifelong friend John Paul.
A funeral service will be held at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington DC, located at 721 Norwood Road, Silver Spring, Maryland, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 12 noon. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland.
