Pat was born on the Fourth of July, 1980, in Washington, D.C., the son of Anne and Kevin McCormally. He was named after his paternal great-grandfather, the result of a bargain between his mom and her father-in-law that, if her second child arrived on his due date of Independence Day, he would be Patrick Henry.
Pat attended Gonzaga high school, near his home on Capitol Hill, earned a double degree in archeology from St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto and received his law degree from Catholic University in Washington.
It was during law school that he met the love of his life, Niknaz Moghbeli, a fellow student. They were married in 2010 and became devoted co-conspirators in the fight for justice, both as Assistant Attorneys General for the State of Maryland. They were blessed with two children, Rumi, in 2012, and Seamus, in 2014.
Pat was best known for his unlimited kindness, a trait that earned him a devoted army of lifetime friends from his elementary school days on. As one friend said, “Pat drew out the good in everyone he met — and he intuitively knew to appreciate it in others. He was a grizzly bear in defending the things he loved, but his all-encompassing kindness is what I cherish most.”
Pat was an adventurer, often traveling to explore foreign lands alone, to Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Viet Nam, Morocco and Scotland, or with his family, travelling with Niki in Thailand and Europe, and, with the children, too, in Sweden, Ireland and Mexico. At the time of his death, he was about to depart with several buddies to motorcycle around Portugal. He and Niki were planning to take the kids to Japan in the coming year. His love of life was contagious, his devotion to his wife and children unwavering. And, he really knew how to have a good time.
Pat relished and excelled at his work in the Attorney General’s office, fighting the good fight for consumer protection. He suffered neither fools nor scoundrels gladly.
Pat is survived by his wife Niki and children, Rumi and Seamus; his parents, his sister Niamh Anna (and her husband Andrew Hopper); his father- and mother-in-law, Homayoon and Manzar Moghbeli, sisters-in law Nazanin (Peter) and Anoosheh (Ryan), six uncles and aunts, numerous cousins and innumerable devoted friends.
Pat will be buried in historic Congressional Cemetery on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated for his children’s Section 529 College Savings Plans. You can use these links to donate:
