Richard Allen "Dickie" Dunn

Richard Allen “Dickie” Dunn, 88, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on September 15, 2024. He was a life-long resident of Montgomery County, MD. Richard retired from the US Postal Service in 1992 after 37 years of service. He then retired from retirement and drove a school bus for MCPS for many years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Lorraine Patricia “Pat” (nee Phillips), his children Richard Dunn, Jr. (Katie) and Mary Swanger (Larry); grandchildren Sarah Markwell (Cale Griffin), Sean Dunn (Nicole) and Jason Swanger (Brandie Hite); great-grandchildren Danny, Christopher, Michael, Luke, Erin, Piper, Miranda, and Violet; brothers Donald and Thomas Dunn. He was preceded in death by brother Frank Dunn and sister Patricia Smith.

Richard was born in Rockville, Maryland in 1936 and remained a resident of Rockville until relocating to the Leisure World community in 2002. He married the love of his life, Pat, on September 10, 1955 at Hughes United Methodist Church in Wheaton. Richard enjoyed many things but most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid golfer and could be found many days enjoying the greens at the Leisure World Golf Course, where he once scored a Double-Eagle/Albatross. Having a competitive nature, Richard enjoyed most games including various card games, pool, and could usually back up his “trash talk” with winning results. He went to Richard Montgomery High School where he played Rocket football, but promptly unenrolled at the end of the football season only to re-enroll the following year in time to play another season of football. Richard also enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, watching the Nationals and Commanders on TV and mystery/detective novels.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ at Manor Woods, 5300 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at 11 a.m.
