

On Oct. 7, 2024, Richard (“Dick”) Lambert passed into the presence of his Lord. Richard was born April 20, 1939 in Sterling, Massachusetts and was a resident of Maryland since 1975. A graduate of Lehigh and Brown Universities, and a Fulbright scholar at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany; he served as Professor of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island, senior scientist at Science Applications Inc., and Program Director for Physical Oceanography at the National Science Foundation (NSF). As an active member of their church, Richard served as an elder, member of the Missions Committee, table leader in the former Pastors Class, and volunteer in other roles. He was known for his many decades of faithful devoted care of his wife, Sherrill, who suffered a stroke in 1976.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sherrill Faye Smith Lambert, daughter Lisa-Beth Lambert, and son-in-law George Burrus Ruda. Memorial service will be held at Fourth Presbyterian Church, 5500 River Road, Bethesda, MD 20816 on Saturday, October 26 at 2pm.
