Scott Bradford Weaver, a deeply respected attorney and cherished member of the Old Town community, passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 65, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Born in 1959 in Washington, D.C., Scott grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, where he attended Walter Johnson High School. A proud varsity wrestler, he exemplified discipline and determination from an early age. Scott discovered his passion for paddle sports and the great outdoors at Valley Mill Camp in Seneca, Maryland. As a teenager, he returned to the camp year after year, honing his skills as a whitewater kayaker and competing in events along the East Coast and West Virginia.
After graduating high school, Scott embarked on a transformative journey to explore America. Taking a gap year before attending the University of Colorado, he traveled solo across the country. Along the way, he embraced new challenges —working as a longshoreman in Louisiana, camping in the majestic western parks (despite an ever-present fear of becoming a bear’s dinner), and discovering a profound sense of self-reliance.
Scott thrived at the University of Colorado, majoring in finance and immersing himself in campus life as a proud member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. It was during these years that he discovered a lifelong love for skiing and hiking, pursuits he would share with family and friends throughout his life.
After graduating, Scott returned to the Washington, D.C., area and served as a Senate aide under Senator Bob Dole of Kansas. His time on Capitol Hill sparked his interest in law, inspiring him to pursue a legal degree at George Washington University Law School, from which he graduated in 1987. During his time at GW, Scott discovered a love for single scull rowing. Training at the Potomac Boat Club in Georgetown, he competed in numerous East Coast regattas, including races in Philadelphia and Boston.
Scott dedicated his professional life to his real estate law practice in Old Town, Alexandria, earning a reputation as a trusted advisor to buyers, sellers, and real estate professionals for over 35 years. Known for his warm smile, approachable demeanor, and unwavering professionalism, he was a pillar of integrity and kindness in the community.
Beyond his career, Scott’s greatest joy was his family. A devoted husband and father, he found true happiness in the moments spent with his wife, Gretchen, and their two children, Charlotte and Brad. His family will always cherish their many memories of their vacations at the beach.
His strength and optimism were steadfast, even as he faced his medical challenges with quiet courage and grace.
Scott was a man of humility, generosity, and resilience—a quintessential Virginia gentleman in every sense. While he valued his privacy during his illness, he wished the community to know they remained in his thoughts.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Gretchen; his two children, Charlotte and Brad; and his brothers, Ken Weaver and Brian Weaver (Tina). He was also blessed with a close relationship with his large extended family, including his brothers- and sisters-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews.
In honoring Scott’s memory, we celebrate a life marked by adventure, dedication, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will forever inspire all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Mary’s Chruch at 310 South Royal Street, Alexandria at 10:30 AM on January 27, 2025. A reception will follow. A private burial will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery at a later date.
