

Theresa J. Egan (née Garofano) departed this world peacefully on April 5, 2023 at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg surrounded by her two daughters. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on September 2, 1936, to Philip Garofano and Philomena (Fannie) (née Grignano).Theresa (Teri) is survived by her two daughters Monica (Ray) Cantwell and Laura (Dan) Pontzer and eight grandchildren: Luke (Alexa), Colin, Jesse, Brendan, Joy, Jude, Lucy, and Gianna. She was devoted to her family and leaves behind several loving cousins, Angela Rossetti (Chuck Dimler), Raymond Castiglione (Rose Ann), and Domenic Grignano.
She was a graduate of Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT, and the University of Michigan and earned her Masters degree at The University of Southern California. She enjoyed travel and other cultures and spoke Spanish, French, and Italian fluently. She particularly cherished the time she spent in Italy and Mexico. Her work included decades of service to the US Government as a civil servant in the Department of Energy and other agencies and as an officer in the Naval Reserves.
She cherished her Roman Catholic faith and was a member of the Third Order Franciscans.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be offered at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 11701 Clopper Road, Gaithersburg, MD at the small white historic Chapel (located next to the main church) at 10:30am on April 10th, 2023.
The Chapel is located next to the main church, and it is recommended to park in the large parking lot behind the main church to access the chapel easier.
