Valerie was a social work mentor for 20 years.  She was bold, and gutsy and I loved her for it.  So much of what I know as a social worker is from my training under Valerie.  I owe her a huge debt of gratitude. This is a devastating loss, and words cannot express the depth of my sorrow for this family.  My thoughts and prayers go with you.

My heart aches for such a loss. Val and I met at the gym over 20 years ago. Our kids were babies and she was the most genuine sweet human ever. I’ve always admired her demeanor and calmness.

I don’t even know where to begin, Val and I have so many memories from the past over 20 years that are priceless. It all started with two little girls riding the same bus to kindergarten and the rest is history. Those two little girls are now grown women but every moment we had with them through the years and with the boys I will never forget. We have a very close community and I know we will all gather around her Family to help them through this but this loss is huge and will be with many of us forever. She was always always there for all of us with her spirited honesty which I absolutely loved. You could always count on Val. My sincerest condolences to the entire Family. Just know you are surrounded in love and with more help than you will probably want but we are here for you all and want to do whatever we can to help. She will forever be missed.

There are no words to express my heartfelt sympathy to your family. I'm a client of Valerie's and she is one of the best people I've ever met. I had an immediate connection with Valerie the first time we spoke and have become a better person for knowing her. I will cherish her words of wisdom and remember her for her thoughtfulness and kindness for the rest of my life.

Val was special.   Kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, resourceful, wise, sharing, thoughtful.  She shared her wisdom and life without hesitation.  I will miss her always.

My sympathy to her family, and indeed anyone whose life she touched and improved.

To Val's Family,

One thing I loved and admired about Val was her honesty. She would tell you what you did not want to hear and what nobody else would tell you. Val did not mince her words but was  loving firm when delivering her message. My best example was when my father in law was ill and in a rehab facility. I called Val to complain about the poor quality of care he was receiving. In her lovingly firm manner, she told me they had given up on him. knowing they cannot help him. It was something I did not want to hear, but I needed to hear. Val was the perfect person to tell me.

Unlike Val, I have no words. Let the memories and love bring you comfort. One day your tears will be replaced with smiles. I'm here if you need anything.

We shared so many good times together at WVU!!!  I will miss you.  May you rest in peace.

I am beyond devastated! Val was exceptionally honest and that is what I needed to grow.  Sending your family my heart-felt sympathy.

      We miss you already.  You were the most genuine good person we have ever met and an even better friend.  You always told us how it was, never sugarcoated anything.  For the last 20 years we shared the 4th of July together and watched the fireworks from various places around our houses and most recently from your deck as the trees continue to obstruct the view.  We were supposed to grow old together here together as our kids grew up and moved out.  So many great memories through the years that we will cherish and we will continue our 4th of July tradition with Jim and the kids and tell all of the stories about our friendship.

Val and I were friends and Wednesday walking buddies for 15 years. She was a great friend, my go-to for NWHS questions, and a fellow Diet Coke drinker. When it was too cold to walk we would chat over Diet Coke at McDonald’s. We talked about a lot over the years and her family was always the first topic. She loved them so much and I know she will be missed terribly by them and all of us who were lucky enough to have her as a friend. We send our thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

I am devastated. Love you forever Val. So smart and such a good friend!

Val was a kind person and an exceptionally good therapist.  While I'm not keen on the thought of facing what the future brings without Val's help, it is because of all she has taught me that I think I will be able to do so.  I send my heart-felt sympathy to all of Val's family.

I am going to forever miss you, my dear friend. Rest peacefully in the arms of the angels.
