Mr. Martin was born in Washington D.C. on October 8, 1946, son of O.M. Martin, Jr. and Elizabeth Yost Martin. He grew up in Bethesda and graduated from Walt Whitman High School, the University of Maryland, Adelphi University, and C.W. Post University. He held Master's Degrees in Mathematics, Biology and Medical Biology. He lived in Garden City, Long Island, worked in New York City for 30 years, and returned to Bethesda in 2004. His work as a computer systems analyst spanned the industries of aviation, the financial sector, publishing, clothing manufacturing, pharmacy, and medical IT. More recently, he worked as a consultant on several government projects in the areas of the census, economic recovery and justice applications.
He was an avid reader and polymath. If there was a subject to be learned, he probably had a book on it in his extensive library. He was a researcher who enjoyed problem solving ‘’outside of the box’’. He enjoyed his pilot’s license, and, fearing no height, climbed nearly every tower in Bethesda. He travelled the world and enjoyed what each country had to offer.
He leaves his loving wife Elena, three children Courtney (John), Ross, and Owen (Anna), step-daughter Natalie, four grandchildren, and two sisters Jan (Mel) Goodchild and Candace Martin.
Services and interment will be private.
