

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and has lived many years in the Savannah area. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Garden City and had worked in the Maintenance Department for American Cyanamid, Kemira and retired in 1996 from Tornox.
He served his country with the US Army National Guard; was past Commissioner of the Garden City Recreation Department, where has was very active in coaching all sports. Charles was an avid Hunter and Fisherman and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janice Wilson Hicks; 2 daughters, Nancy Burbage (Thomas), Karen Beecher (Daniel); 4 grandchildren, Kristian and Maddi Beecher, Erica and Cameron Bailey; a great grandson, Hunter Camet Bailey; step grandson, Andy Burbage; 2 brothers, David Hicks (Betty), Sidney Hicks (Aletha), a special niece and nephew, Billy and Glenda Herrin; cousins, other family and friends.
A visitation will be from 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the funeral home with funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home Garden City location with Rev. Ken Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery.
