Sara Kelly Burgstiner

Sara was born in Savannah, Ga., July 27, 1921, to Helen Geiger Kelly and Don Dawson Kelly. Sara graduated from Marlow High School in 1938 and enjoyed attending her class’s frequent reunions and reminiscing with former classmates.

She was a devoted homemaker, loving mother, wonderful cook, excellent seamstress and an avid gardener.

She was an active member of Silk Hope Baptist Church where she served in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union. When her husband was alive she enjoyed supporting his role as a Deacon and often entertained the pastor and his family in their home. In her younger years she worked with children through Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Sara was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Harley Clinton Burgstiner, Sr,; her son, Carson Kelly Burgstiner; great grandson Caleb Paul Zellner; her parents and loving stepfather, Hobson Royal; and brothers Bill Royal and Jim Royal.

She is survived by her two sons, Harley Clint Burgstiner, Jr., (Clara), Michael Burgstiner (Ruth); a daughter in law Wynona Burgstiner, grandsons, Tim Burgstiner, Tony Burgstiner, Bill Burgstiner, Adam Burgstiner; granddaughters, Karen Quinn, Kim Zellner, and Karey Lee. She has 11 great grands, and 2 great great grandchildren. Sara is also survived by a brother, Jack (JoAnna) Royal and cousin, Virginia Hall.

The family would like to thank the loving staff of both Azalealand Nursing Home and Hospice Savannah for the wonderful care and concern they have shown to our mother over the past three years.

Visitation: 10 – 11 a.m. Monday at Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory, 2794 US Hwy 80 West, Garden City, Ga 31408.

Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jun 18, 2012 in the Chapel of the Fairhaven Funeral Home & Crematory, with Dr. Michael D. “Dusty” Reynolds, officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, in Meldrim, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Silk Hope Baptist Church, Azalealand Nursing Home or Hospice Savannah.
