

Mary Connie Ramos De Leon, 89, a resident of Lancaster, California passed away on October 7, 2011. Born in the town of Weldona, Colorado, Connie was the daughter of Immigrant parents, Martin and Benita Ramos. She grew up in Chicago with her brother Lupe and her sisters Jenny, Marie, Rae and Emily. Attending Hull House, they survived through The Great Depression. During World War II, Connie worked on microphones for pilots. Chicago is where she met her husband, Frank R. De Leon. After the birth of her children Rose Marie and Richard, the family moved to Ridgecrest, CA. Connie’s family expanded as Robert, Ruth, Ronald and Rita were born. For many years, they lived on the China Lake base where Connie helped raised her children. Later on, Connie and family moved to Orange County. After her children were grown, Connie went on to become a teacher and taught English as a Second language for over 15 years. Connie had many hobbies in her lifetime. She loved traveling around the world with her husband Frank and her sisters. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was an active member and former president of the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary – Garden Grove 175. She was also a member of the California School Employees Association. She liked playing Scrabble, enjoyed watching cooking shows and eating at her favorite restaurants with loved ones.
Connie was a loving Grandma “Ita” and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren – Jason, Reni, Jessica, Wesley, Brandon and Jason Foltz. She also loved spending time with her great grandchildren Noah DeLeon, Gabriel Glantz and Noah Foltz.
Survived by her children - Rose Marie DeLeon, Robert DeLeon, Ronald DeLeon, Rita Foltz and the above mentioned grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also survived by her son-in-laws, Walt Rogers (Rose Marie’s husband) and Jon Foltz (Rita’s husband).
In lieu of flowers, we are requesting donations be made to the City of Hope in Mary Connie's name. This was her favorite charity.
