Shirley E. Moreira, 84, of Garden Grove, passed away peacefully at her home with her daughters by her side on December 11, 2015. She is survived by daughters, Lisa Moreira of Huntington Beach, Lani Jennings of Big Bear Lake; granddaughters, Jackie and Nikki Dressler; sister, Ruth and brother-in-law Chuck Dickie of Mesquite, NV. She was preceded in death by husband, Everist "Buddy" Moreira; parents Clyde and Dorothy Jellison; and brothers Mason and Wayne. Shirley was born in Cohasset, Minnesota in 1931. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1949 and from the University of Minnesota in 1954. She taught school in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Hawaii and California. While teaching on Oahu, Shirley met and married Buddy, and they moved to Garden Grove where Shirley taught kindergarten at Stanley. Shirley became active in the Assistance League and AAUW where she held many offices, including president. Prior to Buddy's passing in 1991, Shirley and Buddy traveled all over the world. They enjoyed visiting their families each year with trips to Honolulu and to their lakeside cabin in Northern Minnesota. Shirley loved music, and singing and playing the piano with her two granddaughters. She instilled in them both her love of reading. Shirley spent her last few years in her own home with her little dog Tippy, under the watchful eyes of her loyal and faithful caregivers. She is interred at Westminster Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Shirley has requested that donations be made to the Garden Grove Historical Society where she was a docent for many years.
