Breana Nicole Dent-Smith, affectionately known as “Bree,” of Gardena, California, peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, November 7, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Breana was born on June 2, 1989, in Gardena, California, to Dianne Dent and the late Frank Dent, Jr. She was raised in a home filled with faith, love, and strong family values. From a young age, Bree’s gentle spirit and radiant smile brought light and joy to everyone who crossed her path.
Bree accepted Christ at the young age of nine, was baptized, and became a faithful member of Greater Liberty Baptist Church under the leadership of the late T.W. Peters and Reverend Kenneth Martin. Her faith was her foundation, and she carried that light into every part of her life.
She received her education in the Los Angeles Unified School District and was a proud graduate of King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine & Science, Class of 2007. Determined and focused, she continued her academic journey at California State University, Long Beach, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology – Exercise Science in May 2012. Never one to stop striving for excellence, Bree went on to receive her Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management from California State University, Los Angeles in May 2016.
Bree devoted her career to serving others through healthcare, working diligently in Case Management for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Torrance Memorial Hospital, and PIH Health Whittier Hospital. She was deeply committed to helping patients and families navigate their care with compassion and understanding, a reflection of her nurturing heart.
In 2012, while attending El Camino College, Bree met her best friend and soulmate, Desmon Smith. Their friendship blossomed into a beautiful love, and on July 15, 2017, they joined hands in holy matrimony. To this union, God blessed them with two precious children. Their infant son, who passed away in February 2019, now rests safely in the arms of Jesus. On March 31, 2020, their hearts were made whole again with the birth of their daughter, River Brielle, who became Bree’s pride and joy.
Breana had an energetic spirit and loved to sing and dance with her daughter, River. She had a deep love for gospel music and could often be heard lifting her voice in praise. Bree was also an avid fan of her favorite football team, the LSU Tigers and she cheered them on with enthusiasm and pride.
Bree was known for her huge heart, always filled with love for everyone. Her infectious smile could light up any room, and her warm presence made people feel truly seen and cared for. She was the kind of person who loved without limits and gave without expecting anything in return. Her compassion touched everyone she encountered.
Bree was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She shared a close bond with her big brother, Jarryd Dent, who stood proudly by her side throughout life. Together, they created countless memories filled with laughter, support, and sibling love that could be felt by anyone in their presence. She was also a devoted and proud aunt to her two nieces, Ahryan and Kendall Dent, whom she loved and adored beyond measure. Being “TeTe” brought her so much joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Her love, strength, and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace knowing that Bree has received her crown and is resting safely in her Father’s arms.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Desmon Smith; her beloved daughter, River Brielle Smith; her loving mother, Dianne Dent; her brother, Jarryd Dent; her nieces, Ahryan and Kendall Dent; her father-in-law, Arthur Smith; her mother-in-law, Shawnie Smith; her two brothers-in-law, Arthur Smith Jr. and Darius Smith; and a host of loving relatives, extended family, and dear friends.
