Gloria Peggy Hammad Sierra, affectionately known by all as Peggy, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. Born on August 23, 1965, in Gardena, California, Peggy brought warmth, laughter, and unwavering love into the lives of all who knew her.
Peggy spent part of her early childhood in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, before returning to California — a journey made with her mother that marked the beginning of a life deeply rooted in family and compassion. She attended Gardena High School and later pursued her passion for fashion at Brooks College from 1995 to 1997.
A devoted mother above all else, Peggy dedicated her life to raising her three children: Habib (38), Naimah (37), and Joseph (34). Her role as a mother was her proudest accomplishment. She nurtured her children with unconditional love, supported them in every endeavor, and taught them the values of kindness and integrity. In April 2025, she joyfully welcomed her first grandchild, Tonyah, whose arrival filled her with immense pride and happiness.
Peggy lived a rich and full life, marked by creativity, culture, and joy. She spent time living in Palestine, where she learned Arabic and embraced the culture—gifts she passed on to her children. Her love of music, particularly salsa, and her passion for dancing, television, and classic comedies like I Love Lucy were ever-present. She was even featured as an extra on a few TV shows, a fun and memorable chapter of her life.
A true ocean lover, Peggy found peace and freedom in the sea. She spent countless days at Redondo Beach, Newport Beach, Santa Monica, and more, often with her children by her side. She once said the ocean was the one place she truly felt free—a sentiment that speaks to her soul’s gentle, adventurous nature.
Known for her radiant smile, infectious laugh, and compassionate spirit, Peggy had a way of lifting every room she entered. She brought people together, especially during family gatherings and holidays, which she cherished deeply. She was a gentle soul, but she would passionately stand up for her friends, her family, and herself when it mattered most.
Peggy was also a loyal daughter, caring for her mother, Elizabeth, with unwavering devotion during her battle with cancer until her passing in 2013. Her compassion extended to her nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her “Aunt Peggy,” and to the many relatives and friends who considered her a second mother, a sister, or a confidante.
Peggy married Hamed Hammad, the father of her children, in 1986. In 2019, she found love again and remarried Joe Sierra, with whom she shared the last joyful years of her life.
Peggy’s legacy lives on through the kindness she taught, the love she gave so freely, and the family she built and cherished. She will be remembered for her big heart, her boundless support, her humor, and her deep capacity for love.
She is survived by her children Habib, Naimah, and Joseph; her granddaughter Tonyah; her husband Joe; and countless family members and friends who were blessed to know her. She is now reunited with her beloved mother Elizabeth, and her brother Rolando, who passed in 2010, in peace.
Services for Peggy will be held on July 18, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Lighthouse Memorials & Receptions, located at 1016 W 164th St., Gardena, CA 90247.
She will be missed beyond words and remembered with every crashing wave, every burst of laughter, and every family gathering where her spirit will surely be felt.
