Loncee Doral (Derrell) Thompson was born July 24th, 1971, to Robert “Bobby” Thompson and Gwendolyn Taylor (Stowell) in Carson, California. Gwendolyn’s birthday was July 23rd, so there was always a family joke that she celebrated so hard on her birthday that she went into labor and gave birth the next day.
Loncee attended and graduated from Carson High School. It’s believed that he acquired the nickname “Soda” from his friends due to his deep love for Coca-Cola.
In his early twenties, he became a member of the hip-hop crew Brainwash Projects, where he showcased his vibrant, joyful energy and explosive BBoy moves. He continued to perform, teach, and share his passion for dance around the world throughout much of his life. Dance was Loncee’s true love language, an art form through which he connected with others.
Loncee also loved the beach and a good sunset which led him to Hawaii, where he lived as a dance choreographer for five years. After his return to the states, he worked at various restaurants, including Islands, and also spent time as a ride operator at Magic Mountain.
Loncee lived life to the fullest with a true "Hakuna Matata" mentality. He had a unique ability to make friends wherever he went. Some of the many things that brought Loncee joy were Coca-Cola, his beloved red 2005 Ford Mustang, “Christmas in July,” skateboarding along the coast, Spider-Man, astronomy, ancient philosophy, and—most of all—people.
Loncee is survived by his father and stepmother, Bobby and Georgia Thompson; his brothers Kevin Wofford and Scott Thompson; and his sisters Stephanie Wofford, Jamie Thompson, and China Stowell. He also leaves behind countless friends, extended family, and a community of loved ones touched by his energy and light.
