

We make a living by what we get…But we make a Life by what we give…. Eunice Quinn McElveen, age 98 went to be with her Lord and Savior at her residence in Belmont on Friday, August 4, 2017. Mrs. McElveen was a lady who gave back to her community. She served on the Gaston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for over 42 years. Throughout the years she served different positions in the woman’s club, Lionettes, Garden Gate Garden Club and her church where she attended for 71 years. “When you lose someone you love, you gain an angel you know”…
Those left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter in law; Larry and Mildred McElveen of Belmont, North Carolina; three grandchildren and their spouses: Cindy and Jim Mathews, Michael and Bonnie McElveen, John and Ginger McElveen; seven great grandchildren: Caitlin and Mark Merritt, Carissa and Tommy Bolden, Mandi and Drew Merritt, Zack McElveen, Kristen Barron, Addie McElveen and Colton McElveen; four great-great grandchildren: Callie Merritt, Chloe Merritt, Cora Jane Bolden and Brice Merritt; a very special niece who was like a daughter to her: Beckie Oxford of Clover, South Carolina along with numerous nieces and nephews also surviving.
Mrs. McElveen was the daughter of the late Haskell Young Quinn and Lola Jane Earle Quinn. She was preceded in death by her husband 43 years Taylor McElveen; two sisters and brother, Frances “Frankie” Quinn Wray, Annelle Quinn Dulin and Lewis “Sonny” Eugene Quinn.
A Life Well Celebrated Ceremony will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 801 West Franklin Blvd, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend Jim Mathews delivering words of comfort to her family and friends.
Graveside and committal will follow in the Singing Tower Garden at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.
The family will receive guests from 1:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM prior to the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be given in her memory to Covenant United Methodist Church, 801West Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, North Carolina 28052
