Florence Rose Whitford Chewning, age 90, passed away on Tuesday ~ June 4, 2019 at the Lincoln Rehabilitation Center, Lincolnton, North Carolina. One of the most important things that will be missed about Florence is just being able to sit and talk to her. A country music fan, she and her late husband would travel to Branson, Missouri and enjoy the venue of the stages and loved traveling across America. And when she was home, Florence loved to sew, bake and spend countless days shopping with her dear friend of 50 plus years, Gladys Lewis who lived across the hall from her when she passed away at the Lincoln Rehabilitation Center in Lincolnton, North Carolina. In 1970, Florence was awarded the Woman of the Year in McAdenville. She was a member of several organizations and a member of quilting and card playing clubs. Her working years were spent mostly in the retail industry consisting of Brindles and Wal-Mart. Florence was very proud of and loved her children, grandchildren and entire family greatly.
Those left behind to cherish Florence's memories and carry on her legacy, are her daughter: Diane Chewning Boyles; two sons and daughters in law: Randy and Kathy Chewning of Denver, North Carolina, Ronnie and Kim Chewning of Hilton Head, South Carolina; seven grandchildren: Lisa Starnes, Eric Chewning and wife Sabrina, Michelle Moore and husband Tommy, Holly Chewning, Carly Chewning and Mariah Chewning; seven great grandchildren also survive.
Florence was the wife of the late Osborne "Tom" Clayton Chewning who passed away on September 20, 2017 after 70 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her grandson Jason Boyles, three sisters and two brothers.
A graveside and committal service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday ~ June 6, 2019 at Anson Memorial Park, 1736 Morven Road, Wadesboro, North Carolina 28170.
