Henry “Steve” Koon, 84 died unexpectedly June 25, 2022. He was born November 1, 1937, in Green Hill Township, Rutherford County, NC, The son of James Aaron Koon and Nona Searcy Koon. Steve graduated from RS Central High School, Class of 1956. Following graduation, he went to work for Western Electric. He was drafted into the US Army in 1957 and served 2 years. Following his time in the US Army, he began his lifelong career at Bell South and retired from AT&T in 1997. Steve was the youngest and last surviving of 9 children, and lovingly known by his siblings as Bud.
He met the love of his life, Betty Grant at a high school sock hop. She whistled at him across the parking lot and they never looked back. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in April.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by is son Henry Ashley Koon; 4 brothers and 4 sisters, Danial Koon, Nona Latanae’, Bill Koon, Ruth Tolliver, Joe Koon, Lucy Tyler, Herb Koon and Dorcas Bennett.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Betty Grant Koon are his son, Steven Grant Koon of Gastonia; Daughter, Stephanie Koon Buchanan and her husband Daryl Buchanan of Denver; two granddaughters Raegan Michelle Koon and Alexandra Taylor Koon of Kannapolis; many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 10:00am Saturday, July 2nd at Gaston Memorial Park.
