Jack Edward Thornburg

Belmont – Jack Edward Thornburg, 85 passed away peacefully October 5, 2017. He was born October 7, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Martin and Ethel (Smith) Thornburg. More than anything Jack loved playing baseball as a young man in high school. He graduated from Belmont High School and proudly served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. His hobbies included singing in a band when he was younger and working in the yard. All who knew and loved Jack will miss him dearly.

Those left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 43 years, Kay Thornburg of Belmont, NC; daughters, Sondra Thornburg of Mt. Holly, NC, Teresa Cansler of TN and Pam Crowe of Mt. Holly, NC; brother, Floyd Thornburg (Margaret Ann) of Summerville, SC and sister, Lorene Bell of Mt. Holly, NC; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Jack was preceded in death by one brother, William Thornburg.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel in Gastonia, NC. Reverend Odell Cook will preside. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, prior to the service on Sunday.
