

The Best is Yet to Come… A man of the Greatest Generation…. James Mitchell “Jim” Moore, Sr age 95, went to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Jim honorably served in five major campaigns in the United States Army during WWII and was a part of crucial battles leading up to the end of the war. Jim was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Silver Star attachment, the WWII Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and an Honorable Service lapel button for WWII. A Proud American, Jim was also a member of the Last Mans Club. He loved walking his land in Western North Carolina where he enjoyed “his own piece of the earth”. He too loved his pecans, and shelling them. He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt squirrels and work his garden. These are just a few accolades about the full life Jim lived.
He was the son of the late Barney Sylvester Moore and Ida Marie Wise Moore. Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years Audrey Jean Chitwood Moore who passed away on February 22, 1997 along with one daughter Nadine Moore Barrett, three grandchildren, James Mitchell Moore III, Jennifer Nicole Moore, Bonnie Rose Jenkins and four sisters.
Those left to behind to cherish Jim’s memories and carry on his legacy are his three daughters and sons in law: Cynthia “Cindy” Alice Moore Knight and Robert Knight of Gastonia, North Carolina, Sharon Elaine Moore and Donald Jenkins of Lake Wylie, South Carolina, Vickie Moore Jenkins and Richard Penland of Clover, South Carolina; one son: James Mitchell Moore, Jr of Gastonia, North Carolina; eight grandchildren: Tammy Stein, Keith Jenkins II, Gia Kinney, Laura Brown, Alisha Jenkins, Charles Jenkins II, Brantley Moore and Kheirston Moore; eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister: Farris Costner; two brothers and sisters in law: Henry and Lucille Moore, Roy and Jeanette Moore all of Gastonia, North Carolina.
A Ceremony celebrating Jim’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, March 17, 2017 at South Gastonia Church of God, 310 Carolina Avenue, Gastonia, North Carolina with Reverend Bobby Gilley to deliver words of comfort to Jim’s family and friends. Active pallbearers are the United States Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard. Graveside service with Military Honors accorded by the Gaston County Honor Guard will follow in the Singing Tower Garden at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, North Carolina.
The family will greet friends from 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM prior to the service.
