Nancy retired from BellSouth in 2004 after 35 years of dedicated service. She was a committed platelet donor with the American Red Cross for over 30 years and was proud to have received her 65-gallon pin. Nancy had a deep love for music, especially classical, and enjoyed singing. She cherished her family and friends, old movies from the 1930s and 1940s, and all animals. While volunteering at a cat adoption center, she adopted older cats and those with medical conditions or challenging personalities – the ones often overlooked.
Nancy converted to Judaism in 1985, a bold and personal decision she embraced despite growing up in a family of conservative Christians. True to her character, she lived life on her own terms and remained unapologetically herself. Nancy was known for her quick wit, unfiltered honesty, and infectious sense of humor. She was a proud, lifelong yellow-dog Democrat who passionately opposed racism, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, always advocating for those who couldn't stand up for themselves.
Nancy was blissfully child-free throughout her life, a choice she fiercely defended.
She is survived by her brother, Danny Romary (Laura) of Belmont NC; three nieces; two nephews; three great nieces; one great-nephew; and two great-great nieces. Nancy was predeceased by her two sisters. Her adored niece, Amber, and her dearest friends, Barbara, Agnes, Anna, Theresa, and Dean, brought decades of fun, laughter and adventure into her life.
Per Nancy’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the ASPCA.
“When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen: There will be something solid for you to stand upon, or you will be taught to fly.”
