Mrs. Teague was born in Swain County and was the daughter of the late Glenn E.
and Bertha Mae Stephenson Payne.
Mrs. Teague was a graduate of Holbrook High School, Lowell and was a member of
Lowell-Smyre United Methodist Church where she served as Lay Leader, Sunday
School teacher, member of the Choir, Financial Secretary, member of U.M.W. and
United Methodist Conference Delegate.
Mrs. Teague is survived by two daughters, Teresa Race and husband Danny Jenkins
of Bryson City, Carolyn Ann Teague and husband Garland Johnston of Denver; one
sister, Glenda Payne Eudy and husband John of High Shoals, four brothers, Wade
Payne and wife Rosemary of Hutchinson Island, Florida, Charles Payne of Clover,
Wallace Payne and Douglas Payne of Gastonia; three grandchildren, William Race
and wife Emilee of Summerville, South Carolina, Kristopher Race and wife
Danielle of Gastonia, Timothy Jenkins and wife Sasha of Sylva; numerous nieces
and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p. m. Saturday at Carothers Funeral
Home, Gastonia.
Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Sunday at Lowell-Smyre United Methodist Church,
Lowell with the Rev. Richard Cloninger officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
Mrs. Teague was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Carroll
Teague; two sisters, Myrtle Payne Jenkins, Helen Payne Walls; one brother,
Kenneth Payne.
