
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Royden James Wheeler and Mabel Rauhof Wheeler Hull, with one sister Jean Crowe. Mr. Wheeler was a United States Marine Corps Veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Reynold’s Metals Company after 22 years in St Louis, Mo. and 5 years in Richmond, VA and was a member of Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian, VA. He was a very friendly, generous and creative man who enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard, repairing things for friends or being at the beach. He was an inspired fine artist who enjoyed painting and making pottery from clay he found while canoeing. He also loved music of all kinds from classical to rock but had a special love for the music of the highlands which included dulcimer, bluegrass and bagpipe. He learned to build dulcimers which he would proudly give away. He also loved being Poppy to his granddaughters and doing things for them and with them when ever he could.
Mr. Wheeler is survived by a son, Royden James Wheeler, III; a daughter, Julia Ann Wheeler; and two grandchildren, Haley Capell (Joshua) and Abbe Cashden (Chandler).
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Gaston Memorial Park.
