Ruth Norris Long

Ruth Norris Long, age 93, of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, March 08, 2012 at Courtland Terrace with her loving family by her side. She was born in Prattville, Alabama and was the daughter of the late Henry Winston and Theola Jane Mims Norris.

Mrs. Long was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lowell.

Mrs. Long is survived by her daughter, Sandra Segars and husband Jerry of Gastonia; one step-daughter, Jeannean Laws of Fayetteville; two brothers, Oscar Norris of Gastonia, Clifford Norris and wife Sue of Charlotte; one sister, Kathleen Ottinger of Stanley; four grandchildren, Todd Segars and wife Lisa of Bessemer City, Patrice Martin and husband Billy of Crouse, Randy Hoagland and wife Faith of Virginia; four great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; step-daughter-in-law, Jane Saunders and husband Wally of Lowell.

Mrs. Long will lie in state at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and the family will receive friends at the home of Jerry and Sandra Segars.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Masonic Section of Gaston Memorial Park with Rev. Larry Dawalt officiating.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Long; daughter, Nancy Hoagland; three brothers, Marvin Norris, Leo Norris, Henry Norris; three sisters, Lessie Starrett, Alice Huffstetler, Maggie Johnson.
