Samuel Joseph Wise Jr.

He was born in Gastonia and was the son of the late Samuel Joseph Wise Sr. and Louise Mathis Wise Spencer.

Mr. Wise was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Absher-Flowers Post 9337. He retired from Wix Corporation after 23 years of service and was a member of South Marietta Street Baptist Church.

Mr. Wise is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanette Smith Wise; one son, Joseph Donald Wise, and his wife, Rowena, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Mickey Lambert, of Altomont, Ala.; three grandchildren, Joseph Allen Wise, William Ray Wise and Catherine Marie Wise, of Fayetteville; two great-grandchildren, William Wise Jr. and Lilly Wise; and numerous loving nieces and nephews and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of South Marietta Street Baptist Church, 911 S. Marietta St. in Gastonia, with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of South Marietta Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Self officiating.

Interment will follow at Armstrong Memorial Cemetery in Gastonia with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard.

Mr. Wise was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Josephine Hawkins and Juanita Simpson; and brother, William David Wise.
