

Shirley Smith Beam, age 75, of Belmont, passed away at her home with her loving family by her side on Friday, July 22, 2011. She was born in Stanly County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Robert “Bob” and Faye Hartsell Smith.
Mrs. Beam retired as an Administrative assistant to the Belmont Police Chief and was a volunteer member of the South Point Life Saving Crew. She was a member of Alexander Memorial Baptist Church, Belmont.
Mrs. Beam is survived by one son, Tim David Beam and wife Cinde of Belmont; one daughter, Donna Branch and husband Tony of Belmont; one brother, Kenneth Smith of Oakboro; one sister, Barbara Furr of Albemarle; five grandchildren, David Branch, Craig Branch, Jamie Counts, Angela Dawson, Nikki Cobb; six great, grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P. M. to 9:00 P. M. Sunday at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P. M. Monday at Alexander Memorial Baptist Church, 208 South Main Street, Belmont, North Carolina with the Rev. Jerry Pennington officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont.
Mrs. Beam was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hal David Beam; grandson, John Christopher Branch.
