Virginia Nesbitt Mann (Ginger), 75, completed her earthly faith journey February 2, 2019. Ginger graduated from Durham HS and Drake College in Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Mann, mother Mary Nesbitt and father Rev. Wilson Nesbitt. She is survived by her son, Scott A Mann of Durham and brother Larry Nesbitt (Bonnie) of Tybee Island, GA, a niece and two nephews. Ginger had a rewarding career retiring as Administrative Assistant for Clinical Laboratories at Duke Hospital. She had two passions: her church, and her genealogical research. At Asbury United Methodist Church, she was Lay Leader, Delegate to Annual Conference, a beloved Sunday School Teacher, Church Historian, President of United Methodist Women, Worship Chair, and a choir member. She compiled a booklet for Asbury's 100th Anniversary, faithfully worked at Asbury's food bank and was a member of many committees. She was devoted to and loved her church family. Ginger was the author of several family histories that will be donated to the NC Archives. In 2018, Ginger was recognized for her Outstanding Contributions to the NC Genealogical Society. Ginger's Memorial Service was held Saturday, February 23, 11 AM, at Asbury UMC, Durham; reception to follow. Philip Anthony Mann, 1946-2014
DURHAM, NC – Philip Anthony (“Tony”) Mann died on Dec. 13, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.
Philip was born March 23, 1946 in Castine, ME, son of Earl Raymond Mann, Sr. and Thalma (Hawes) Mann. After attending schools in Bucksport, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965, training in the infantry/artillery. He served three courageous tours in Vietnam, reaching the rank of Specialist E5 (Sergeant), and receiving several meritorious achievements. He was honorably discharged in 1971.
He later relocated to Fort Lauderdale, FL with his family, where he began his lifelong career as an electrician. After marrying and raising a son, he settled in his wife’s hometown of Durham.
He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Eric, Glennarose, and Adrienne. He leaves behind his wife, Virginia (Nesbitt); his son, Scott; his brothers, Steven (Linda) of Hampden, MA; Earl, Jr. (Norma) of Frostproof, FL; and Alden (Sharyn) of Boothbay Harbor, ME; an aunt, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was beloved for his self-sacrificing devotion to others and his clever wit.
A visitation will be held, for Mr. and Mrs. Mann, from one thirty until two o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 16th of August, 2021 at Carothers Funeral Home at Gaston Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at two o'clock in the Carothers Chapel followed by an inurnment at Hollywood City Cemetery.
