Wesley is a proud U. S. Air Force Retiree. Wesley was in the Air Force for 23 years. Most of all Wesley loved his family, his country and his church community. Wesley also worked at Amp, where he retired after 15 years. This proud veteran was friends with everyone. He will be greatly missed by many.
Wesley is the son of the late Molly Carpenter Cloniger Herms and William Henry Herms. Preceding him in death are his first wife, and mother of their children; Rachel Evelyn Whisnant Hermes, a step-son; Larry Brown and son in law; Christopher Moore. Sisters; Hazel Fortenberry and Dorthy Herms and brothers; John, Edgar, William, Robert and Reid Herms also preceded Wesley in death.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 17 years; Betty H. Hermes, daughters; Pamela Mauney and husband Roger, Melissa Moore and Wesley’s son Darrell Hermes. Also remembering Wesley are his sister Pearl Lunsford as well five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his sister in law Bessie Whisnant.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Carothers Funeral Home, 2205 Williamsburg Drive, Gastonia.
A Celebration of Life for Wesley will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Fraley Memorial Baptist Church, 3025 Fraley Church Road, Gastonia. Reverends Charles Keller and Mike Criswell will offer words of encouragement and hope to family and friends who gather to remember Wesley.
Committal with full military honors will be held following the services at Gaston Memorial Park.
