July 25, 1944 – June 6, 2025
With profound sadness and gentle remembrance, we announce the passing of our sweet mother Barbara Joan Windland, who departed this life peacefully on June 6th, at the age of 80, surrounded by her children in Round Rock, TX. Though her journey was challenged with a long, courageous battle with cancer, her spirit remained unshakable. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, kindness, and grace that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Born on July 25, 1944 in Passaic, NJ, Barbara was the youngest child of Charles and Josphine Seekins. Growing up, she was especially close to her sister Judy, with whom she spent many joyful hours dancing to music, laughing, and sharing household chores. Her older sister Pat was a beloved presence and guiding influence in their lives, someone she deeply admired and cherished throughout her life.
Barbara was united in marriage to Mark Windland September 26, 1977, a loving partnership that flourished for 46 years. Together they built a life rich with shared dreams at their homes in Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida. They later moved to TX in 2016 to be close to her youngest grandchildren. Later in life, Barbara found great joy in planning sister trips, visiting her children and grandchildren, attending Sunday Mass, and praying the Rosary each night with Father Rocky on Relevant Radio. She was also a golfer and avid golf fan who especially enjoyed watching weekend golf tournaments and following her favorite players, Jordan and Scottie.
Barbara’s professional journey began at the Defense Mapping School, where she worked in the cartographic and photogrammetric field. Through hard work and determination, she rose through the ranks, eventually leading a Federal Government Leadership Program and retiring as a GS-14. A true trailblazer, Barbara exemplified what it meant to succeed in a male-dominated field. Though she stood only five feet tall, her spiritual presence and professional expertise made her a giant to those who knew her. She touched countless lives through her unwavering devotion to God and her distinguished government service.
Above all, Barbara devoted her life to her Catholic faith, and her relationship to God was her guiding force. She served as a lector, a eucharistic minister, and a trusted wedding coordinator. In addition to being an active member in all the church communities where she lived, she shared her deep faith with everyone that passed through her life. Most importantly, she instilled her faith, and the importance of having a relationship with God, in her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a beacon of warmth and resilience, whose love knew no bounds. Barbara always willed the good of the other before satisfying her own needs. A model of selflessness, she gave freely of her heart, and in doing so, created a home that was always open, always safe, and always filled with light.
Barbara is preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Mark. She is lovingly survived by her sisters Patricia Hudson and Judy Asaro; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends and extended family.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 from 5-7pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Dr Georgetown, TX 78628. A Funeral Mass will be held at St John Vianney Catholic Church, 3201 Sunrise Rd. Round Rock, TX 78665 on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10am. Burial to follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. All whose lives were touched by Barbara are welcome to attend and share in honoring a truly remarkable soul.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Barbara’s memory to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Tunnels to Towers.
