Betty was born to parents Betty (Myers) Jacobs and Ken Jacobs in Detroit, Michigan.Betty and her younger sister Joyce were let out of the car and abandoned by their parents on the streets of Detroit. Betty was 5 and Joyce was 4. After 2 days a good Samaritan had noticed the girls from the day before and took them 50 miles north to their aunt Helen in Marysville, Michigan. Luckily, Betty could name the town her aunt lived in. Betty was raised by her mothers sister, Helen Myers. Betty was an excellent student and was always at the top of her class. Her high school librarian was especially fond of her and commissioned 17 year old Betty to paint a 4 foot by 70 foot mural on the library wall of Marysville High School. The mural depicted a visual artistic rendition of the history of the Great Lakes and St. Clair River from the earliest settlers to the present day. The mural remained a centerpiece of the library for close to 50 years until the entire school was rebuilt. Betty met a young man in her church youth group and at the age of 19 married Ray Bowman of Kimball, Michigan in the fall of 1958. Betty dedicated her early years to her husband and raising her 3 children, Ray, Jeannie and Brenda. She was a devoted, kind, and caring mother. After her children were grown she went to college and got a nursing degree. Betty became a Registered Nurse. As a RN she moved to Port Richie, Florida and spent her career years there until she reached retirement age. While in Florida she stepped in and adopted several of her daughter Brenda's children, as her daughter Brenda could not properly care for them. This was the pattern of her life, showing her commitment, love and care for her children, and her family. In 2010 Betty began to have health problems and her son Ray relocated her to be next to him in Granger, Texas. She spent the last 10 years of her life doing the things she loved, caring for her cats, planting and tending fruit trees, flower trees and creating a virtual garden paradise. Betty is survived by her son Ray, daughters Jeannie and Brenda and her grandchildren Ryan, Jacob, Sarah, Hannah, Amanda, Andrew, Seth, Joseph, Theodore, and Emma and great grandson Maverick. Betty spent the last several months of her life with her son Ray reading and studying the Holy Bible. Betty committed her soul to the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing Him to be her Lord and Savior. Her son Ray and grandson Ryan were by her side as she left this world.
