A native of Quanah, Texas, Bob spent 33 years in the Marine Corps. He served in World War II, Korea (1950-1951), and in Vietnam. His commands include CO Marine Rifle Company, Marine Jet Fighter Squadron, Marine Air Group, Marine Air Wing, and Marine Air bases Western Area. Other assignments include duty with the Marine Air Reserves, Head of the Leadership curriculum at the U.S. Naval Academy, Joint Chiefs of Staff (Pentagon), and Director of Marine Amphibious Warfare School. His awards include The Silver Star, Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service medals, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, and thirteen air medals.
Since retirement from the Marine Corps in 1975, Bob was active in city and state civic affairs. He was organizer and charter president of the Cedar Park Kiwanis club, an organizer and past president of the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce, and served five years on the Cedar Park City Council. He was also an active member of Westside Church of Christ in Round Rock, Texas.
Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mona (Monroe) Taylor, son Doug Taylor and wife Qi, daughter-in-law Sharon Taylor, son Mark Taylor and wife Delanise, daughter Lisa Taylor, eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Howard Taylor.
Memorial services will be held at Georgetown Church of Christ in Georgetown, Texas with interment at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
