Lt. Col. Bobby Glenn Gilbert

Bobby Glenn Gilbert, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) USAF, of Georgetown, passed away June 1, 2025, at the age of 94. He was born in Merkel, Texas on September 5, 1930 to parents Grover Cleveland Gilbert and Mildred Holloway Gilbert. He graduated from Merkel High School in 1948 and attended Abilene Christian College before finding his dream job as a pilot with the US Air Force, completing pilot training in 1953, and traveling extensively during his 22-year career.

In 1955, he married Donna Maher and they enjoyed 39 years together until her death in 1994. They had three children and the family eventually settled in the Austin area after a number of career moves.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barbara, of Georgetown; his sons, John Gilbert and his wife Donna of Huntsville, and Robert Gilbert and his wife Tamra of Leander; his daughter, Christina Gilbert Peter and her husband Greg of Huntsville; and his bonus daughters, Sheila Ellis Slagel of Leander, and Valerie Ellis Bowden and her husband Bill of Gause. Also, survived by his sister Betty Maples, brother Bill Gilbert and wife Janet, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to Georgetown Living and Tranquility Hospice for the nearly two years of love, care, and attention he received from a group of very dedicated caregivers.

A celebration of life for Bobby will be held Sunday, June 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78628. A committal service will occur at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery, 13700 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
