Dale Baird Patterson passed away on October 10, 2021 at age 78. He was born on May 4, 1943, in Butler, PA. The youngest of three boys, he loved to cause mischief, in addition to camping and water-skiing. After graduating from Butler High School in 1961, Dale joined the US Army, where he served as an assistant to a colonel at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX. After the sudden death of the colonel, Dale received a letter of commendation for his service to the colonel's family in their time of grief.
After leaving the Army, Dale attended Texas Western University, now UTEP, where he met the love of his life, Susan Phifer. Dale and Susan married on June 10, 1966 and were happily married until Susan's death in 1994. They had two children together, Bryan in 1972 and Amy in 1974. Dale was the kind of person who showed up. Need an usher at church? A friend to help you move? A Santa Claus for the Christmas party? Dale would be there. He had a huge heart and gave the best hugs. In 1984 the family moved to Georgetown, TX. Dale worked for many years as a school bus driver with Georgetown ISD.
In his final years, he defeated skin cancer that had spread to his head and neck. The family is eternally grateful to Dr. Patrick Kelley and his nurse Ashlee, Dr. Karen Cohen and her team at Texas Oncology, Texas Home Health, and Family Tree hospice for their kindness and care.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved Susan, parents Merl and Anna Mary (Martin) Patterson, stepmother Martha (Baird) Patterson, brother Wayne Patterson, and nephew Michael Costello.
He is survived by his children, Bryan and Amy, brother Daniel (Patty) Patterson, and extended family. He will be dearly missed.
At his request, there will be no public memorial service. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to Georgetown Backpack Buddies which provides food to school children over weekends and school breaks. (www.georgetownbackpackbuddies.org)
