David was preceded in passing by his wife of 57 years, Billie Wesson Arnold (formerly Billie Frances Wesson). Also preceded is brother, Walter Daniel Arnold Jr. and his wife Lois of Watkinsville, GA; and sister Ida Rebecca Johnson of Atlanta, GA.
David is survived by his son, David A. Arnold Jr, his wife Michelle Beechem Arnold, and their two grandchildren Austin Alexander and Makenzie Leigh (now Makenzie Arnold O'Connell); his daughter, Saralee Fairburn, her husband Scott Hamilton, and their children Sasha Marie, Shea Hamilton, Seth Daniel, and Stefan Michael. David also has two great grandchildren Finn Alexander O'Connell and Henry David Arnold.
David was born in Hamer, South Carolina to Rev. and Mrs. Walter D. Arnold Sr. He graduated from McColl High School in McColl, South Carolina and attended Clemson A&M College, majoring in architecture. He was a member of the "Pershing Rifles" (ROTC) and held numerous "keys" while there.
From February 1949 until February 1958, he proudly served in the United States Air Force as a non-commissioned officer; serving in Newfoundland, Labrador, Baffin Island NWT, Fairbanks Alaska, Tsuiki Japan, Suwon Korea, and numerous bases in the United States.
He was an avid reader - always wanting to learn something new. As a hobby, he was a HAM operator, one of the few licensed "CB" operators, and flew as a crew member/communications supervisor in Service. Upon reaching the age of 69, a lifelong dream was fulfilled when he soloed in an airplane. He loved to fly!
David always wanted to pattern his life after the poem called "Success" - as follows (from his hand):
"He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much. Who has gained the respect of intelligent men, the trust of pure women and the love of little children. Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it, whether by an improved poppy, a perfect poem or a rescued soul. Who has never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty or failed to express it; who has looked for the best in others and given them the best he had; whose life was an inspiration; whose memory is a benediction."
A celebration of life for David will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628.
