

Dr. Andrew Turner, PhD passed away on July 29, 2012 in Georgetown, Texas. He was born in Fallingston, PA.; Andrew lived a number of years in Michigan and Florida before moving to Georgetown, Texas 12 years ago. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1955, following two years of service during the Korean Conflict. Andrew graduated from Pensbury High School in Fallsington, PA., and received his undergraduate and master’s degree from Michigan State University and his PhD from the University of Michigan. He was an educator with the Detroit Public Schools, before becoming a faculty member and chairperson of the History Department at Wayne County Community College. While in Detroit, Andrew met and married Mattie D. Davis. After his teaching careers ended, they traveled for approximately 15 years throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico before settling in Georgetown, Texas where they were active members of Macedonia Baptist Church. Andrew was the son of the late George and Annie B. Turner; he was preceded in death by his sister Rose Turner Jackson, brother, William, Cornell, Albert and Daymon Tuner. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty years, Mattie, three stepchildren, Esterlene, Angela and Clinton Davis all of Detroit, Michigan; four brothers, George and Elizabeth of Hamilton, NJ, Dr. Franklin and Victoria of San Diego, CA, Lincoln and Sharon of Montclair, NJ, Reginald of Edgewater Park, NJ and brother-in-law, William Jackson of Roseville, CA. He leaves a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday August 1, 2012 at 10:00AM, at The Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
