

Ed Briscoe 1931-2008 Ed Briscoe was a big man with a big personality and an enormous love for his family. He was born on December 21, 1931 in Sheridan, Texas, one of six children to Eddie and Hallie Briscoe. He attended Sheridan schools and was a standout baseball player at Sheridan High School. After graduation, he was offered a professional baseball contract by the Boston Red Sox organization, but injuries sustained in an automobile accident prevented him from playing pro ball. Ed entered the working world and embarked on a very successful career in the construction industry. On November 22, 1956 he married Ruby Heine in Austin, Texas. They had three children: Gene Dorsett, La Dene Dorsett and Jerry Dorsett. In 1972, after a 16 year tenure with construction giant H. B. Zachary, Ed and his brother-in-law Herman Knox founded Knox and Briscoe Construction in Alvin, Texas. Ed and Ruby relocated to Friendswood, Texas where they enjoyed the next 25 years. In 1996 Knox and Briscoe was purchased by AT&T. After retiring Ed and Ruby bought a magnificent ranch outside of Midway, Texas. The next ten years Ed was a cattleman, a member of the Southwest Texas Cattle Raisers Association, and the Midway Church of Christ, where he was baptized on August 18, 2002. Ed enjoyed hunting, barbecuing, watching the Houston Astros, and spending time with his family at his ranches. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter La Dene Dorsett, brother Leonard Briscoe, sister Celie Spittler, great granddaughter Hannah Ruth Dye, and great great grandsons Landon and Gavin McSpadden. He is survived by his wife Ruby, sons Gene and Jerry, brothers Weldon and Albert Briscoe, sister Billie Jean Briscoe and numerous grand children, nieces and nephews. Visitation for Ed will be Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 6pm to 8pm at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel in Georgetown. Services will be Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11am at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Oatmeal Cemetery in Oatmeal, Texas. The family wants to thank Lana Conklin and the staff at Hearthstone Health Center in Round Rock.
