Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Efren G. Romero, 58, of Georgetown,Texas born in Leon,Guanajuato passed away on April 29,2023 at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. His battle with cancer in the recent year showed his courage and strength in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Efren stayed strong and continued fighting until the end -as he would always say, “ I’m fine” , “Estoy bien” .
Efren graduated from Preparatoria Oficial De Leon, Guanajuato and attended Laredo Community College. He worked for many years as a Security Officer and a Propane Driver. As a security officer, he received many honors but his most notable achievement was when he received a Hero Award from Union National Bank in Laredo, Texas. In August,1992, he responded to a robbery and protected all Employees from imminent danger. He never hesitated when it came to protecting others.
Efren had 20 years of service at St. Helens Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas, in the following ministries: Cristo Renueva su Parroquia, Guadalupanas, Movimiento Familiar Cristiano, Grupo de Oración Carismática,Comité Hispano, Catequista , Hombres al servicio De Dios, and many more. He was very active in his church and community. When Efren was not working and volunteering his time at church, he enjoyed spending his time with his family and his dogs, whether it was grilling, yelling at the T.V while watching sports, or just hanging out admiring the presence of his family, he did it with a smile on his face and love in his heart. His grandkids were his world. He taught us many things in life but most importantly taught us that family is everything.
The Romero family would like to thank all the medical staff who helped us through this battle. They made sure that he was always given the best care available. Their compassionate attention and professional care gave us more time together on this wonderful earth. There are not enough words for us to express our appreciation. Efren always referred to his medical team as Gods angels.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Elsa, his three sons, Efren “Agustin” (Bianca), Emanuelle (Carmelinda), and Elias, his five grandchildren, Damian, Ayden, Amaya, Olivia, and Mia, his siblings, Humberto, Vicky, Eva, Betty, and Yvonne; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Efren is preceded in death by Ma Elpidia Gutierrez (Mother), Agustin Gutierrez and Petronila Gutierrez (Grandfather & Grandmother), Maria Concepcion Martinez and Guadalupe Martínez (Mother-in-law & Father-in-law), Humbertito Romero and Jesus Daniel Vega (Nephews).
Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means we’ll miss you until we meet again.
