

Colonel Everett Wayne Truxal (USAF Retired) took his last flight May 6, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas to Alva Kenneth and Irene Fern Rhoades Truxal. Wayne attended college at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, in Miami and received his bachelor’s degree in business at the University of Omaha in Nebraska.
Colonel Truxal enlisted in the Air Force in December, 1950 and went through Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He entered the aviation cadet program in 1952 at Marana, Arizona and received his wings and commission a year later at Webb AFB, Big Spring, Texas. During his 30 year career, he was an instructor pilot and later flew fighters, bombers and cargo aircraft, with the 6 engine B-47 Bomber as his favorite. He accumulated 4990 flying hours in various planes and flew 478 combat missions in Southeast Asia. His tours of duties were throughout the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.
Colonel Truxal served in many roles within the Strategic Air Command; was a member of the Inspector General Team and retired from Williams AFB, Arizona as Deputy Commander for Maintenance. He was awarded over twenty medals and ribbons, including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star.
Wayne retired in 1979 to Georgetown, Texas and became an avid golfer and liked gardening and yard work. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends living life to its fullest and will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Irene Truxal. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Nell Truxal; daughter, Susan Truxal; sons, Randy Truxal and wife Cindy Truxal and Mark Truxal and wife Claudine Truxal; sister, Donna Rhoades and husband J.C. Rhoades. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Luke Truxal and wife Anna Duch, Matthew Truxal and wife Melanie Truxal, Noah Truxal and Taylor Truxal.
A funeral service will be held at Cook-Walden/Davis Funeral Home (2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628) Friday, May 12th at 10am.
