In 1935 his mother married Roy Hise who was forever thereafter Pop. The family soon moved to Lubbock, Texas; first to a ranch at Buffalo Lakes: then into town near the Tech campus. Mrs. Hise continued to live at that location until the mid-1980’s.She passed away in 1989. Pop was killed in an automobile accident in Oct. 1950. Wayne died in 1975. Gerald’s education was in the Lubbock Public Schools where he graduated from Lubbock High School in 1946 at age 15. Undergraduate college work was at Texas Tech where he was a member of the “Goin’ Band from Raider Land” and from which he was awarded a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1950. This was followed by graduate studies in Geology (Paleontology). Gerald excelled in numerous sports during his formative years; primarily the game of baseball. Being a lefty, his position was first base and, in 1947, he was selected Texas All-State First Baseman. Drafted by a semi-professional team in Victoria, Texas, Gerald, after several years of playing ball, made the decision instead to use his education and enter the Oil business. Gerald served in the US Army from 1951-1953; posted to mapping crews in Western Alaska and The Presidio in San Francisco .Upon discharge, he was employed by Brown and Root in Victoria, Texas before ultimately joining Cities Service Oil Company in Bartlesville, OK. After their marriage on June 20, 1959, the couple returned to Bartlesville to continue their careers. It was here that both daughters, Lisa and Holly were born. Jerry (as he was now known) advanced through the corporate ranks of Cities and, when the company merged with Occidental Petroleum, was Vice President of International Operations. Through these years, the family moved to East, West and Gulf Coast.; staying in Houston long enough for both girls to finish their schooling. Jerry chose, in 1995, to retire to a golf course somewhere in Texas and Berry Creek Country Club of Georgetown was his and Nathalie’s choice. They enjoyed family, friends, church, travel and golf these past years. Jerry led a number of important committees at First Methodist Church in Georgetown and Berry Creek.
