

Gladys was born in Thorndale, Texas on August 27, 1921 to Selma (nee Noack) and Albert Simank. She was baptized, confirmed and went to school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorndale. While in school, she played basketball and earned the nickname Kitty due to agility and quickness. After graduation from Thorndale High School, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she met and married her life mate Army Air Corps pilot, Al Wicker. They enjoyed a 20 year military career in the Air Force and as an Air Force wife. They eventually retired in Austin, Texas and later Sun City, Texas in 1998. During retirement, they loved to square dance and traveled extensively. Gladys and Al had two daughters: Deborah A. Wicker, COL, USA (ret) and Jennifer J. Wicker (who passed away at 3 years old). Gladys and Al were married for 60 years. She was a kind and generous person who loved her church, her family and her many, many small dogs over the years. Gladys walked in grace.
Gladys is predeceased by: her parents, Selma and Albert Simank; her daughter, Jennifer Wicker; her brother and sister-in-law, Eldee Simank and Gladys Bound (Simank); and her husband, Al Wicker. She is survived by: her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Wicker and William Williams; grandson and wife, Colin and Lindsey Williams; and granddaughters, Hadley and Sadie Williams. Gladys received tender and loving care from Maria, Mariana, Connie, Sol, Mercedes, Veronica, Shirley, Patricia and Heidi enabling her to remain happy and safe in her home. She was also provided compassionate and professional care by the staff of A-med Community Hospice.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas. A military graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
