

Harold E. Guyer, 83, Georgetown, Texas and formerly of Sandwich, Massachusetts and Peru, Indiana went home to be with His Lord at 12:55 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2016. He was born on May 18, 1933 to Paul and Nira Amos Guyer.
Harold was a 1952 graduate of Peru High School and a United States Air Force Korean War Veteran. His military awards include the National Defense Medal, Korean Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
He was self-employed as co-owner/operator of Guyer the Mover until 1977. Guyer the Mover continues to operate into the third generation of Guyers. He retired from the Peru Community Schools after serving 20 years as a bus driver and custodian. Following retirement he was employed by Purdue University to transport the athletic teams to their games. Harold was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumnae Association and the American Legion.
Harold was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who deeply loved his Lord and family. His children and grandchildren were the joys of his life. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown. Harold was a man of great faith and integrity. He was always willing to assist his fellow man and never knew a stranger. Serving with the Labors for Christ in the construction of Faith’s sanctuary was a special event in his life.
He was a loyal Purdue Boilermaker fan when it came to football and basketball. Watching tennis, college sports, Indy/NASCAR races or simply sitting by the lake fishing provided hours of relaxation.
Harold married Sonja S. Rouch Guyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru on May 24, 1959. Left to cherish Harold’s memory are his wife of over 57 years of marriage Sonja Guyer along with his daughters Michelle G. Bess and her husband Charles of Frisco, Texas, Melissa G. Olesen and her husband Soren of Pearland, Texas, and Marcynda S. Verdicchio and her husband Peter of Round Rock, Texas; six grandchildren, Blaine E. Bess, Tampa, Florida, Bree M. Bess, Columbia, South Carolina, Drew J. Olesen, Houston, Texas, Cole Guyer Olesen, Pearland, Texas, Isabella M. Verdicchio, Round Rock, Texas and Abigail H. Verdicchio, Round Rock, Texas; sister Katie (Jim) Wheeler of Boise City, Louisiana is his only surviving sibling of ten brothers and sisters. Also surviving are special in-laws, Jerry and Sandy Thompson, Carmel, Indiana, Fred and Lizza Rouch, Santee, California, and Paula Guyer, Peru, Indiana. Among his over 30 nephews and nieces were special nephews Stanley Thompson, Stuart Thompson, Steven Thompson, Sterling Thompson and Scott Thompson, Gerald L. Guyer II and Jim Guyer and special nieces Joyce Giver, Theresa Rasmussen, Janice Rockey and Cherylynn Johnson.
A service celebrating the life of Harold E. Guyer will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church, 4010 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas with the Reverend Walt Pohland officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
