Hedwig, who was affectionately called Heidi by family and friends, was born on July 3, 1936, in the town of Babenhausen, Germany. She was one of 12 children which included nine sisters and two brothers who grew up during WWII. While attending nursing school in her early twenties, she met the love of her life, Curtis, a G.I. stationed in Germany; she eventually moved to the United States to raise a family with him. Hedwig dedicated most of her life to raising her children as a stay-at-home mom and later cared for her many grandchildren. She was a kind and loving woman known equally for her compassion, generosity, quick wit and humor, and deep concern for others. Hedwig’s many hobbies included reading, gardening, watching ice skating and Wheel of Fortune, and collecting dolls. But above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and expressing her love for them through her cooking, baking, crocheting, and thoughtful, hand-picked gifts.
Mrs. Rowland is predeceased by three of her siblings. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, seven sisters and one brother, four children (Carol, Irma, June (Cris), and Curtis Jr. (Debbie)), 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Hedwig will be held Monday, July 18, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628, followed by a funeral service from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
