

Horace Clyde McGlothlin, age 94, died at home in Georgetown, Texas, on September 24, 2018. Clyde was born on December 25, 1923, in Grand Prairie, Texas, to parents Charles Greene and Jessie Hulen (Rutledge) McGlothlin. He was known to family and friends alike as a man of integrity and honor.
He lived much of his young life in Grand Prairie, then attended junior high and high school in Kilgore, Texas. Soon after returning to Grand Prairie following high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in response to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He arrived on Guadalcanal soon after the Marines had taken it and was part of the force that defended the island against the enemy’s attempts to retake it.
After his time in the Pacific war zone, Clyde returned to California and then was transferred to the east coast. On the way, he stopped in Grand Prairie and married Mary Beatrice Nusko whom he had dated in high school, and following the war, they settled in Grand Prairie to raise their family. He was in the Marine Corps Reserve for a number of years and was called back into active duty during the Korean War, serving as a trainer for Marines preparing for overseas duty. He left the Marines with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Clyde worked as a powerhouse engineer at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas, and retired after 30 years as Chief Engineer. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, and in later years First Baptist Church, Lake City, Colorado, and Crestview Baptist, Georgetown. Some of his favorite activities were fishing, hunting, camping, four-wheeling in the mountains, international travel, and volunteering with church organizations and the Hinsdale County Historical Society of Lake City, CO. Everyone benefited from his ability to repair just about anything!
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mary (Nusko) McGlothlin; son Bob McGlothlin (wife, Marilyn) of Mansfield, Texas, and daughter Sandra Adair (husband, Randy) of Georgetown; grandchildren Jake McGlothlin, Mandy King, Jake Adair, and Joseph Adair; and great-grandchildren Cody King, Caleb King, and Avery McGlothlin.
Burial will be at 11 a.m., Monday, October 1, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Pastor Bill Skaar officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 6, at Crestview Baptist Church, Georgetown, Jack Phelps officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the building fund of Crestview Baptist Church.
