

John was born in Santa Ana, CA and lived in southern California for 70 years before moving to Texas to be near his grandchildren. John attended Mater Dei High School and continued his Catholic education at Loyola University where he graduated in 1965. John went on to obtain his MBA at the University of Southern California and became a Trojan fan for life.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Fleming Koenig, his two daughters Amanda Koenig Stone and Sarah Elizabeth Roup, their husbands Andrew Stone and Russ Roup, and 6 grandchildren, Hayden, Abigail, Caroline, Davis, Shea and Crosby and his beloved dog, Heidi.
John served bravely as an officer in the United States Navy completing three tours during the Vietnam War on the heavy cruiser USS St. Paul. His dedication to the Navy continued with multiple trips with Cooks of the Valley, a non-profit which provided huge BBQ’s on aircraft carriers and naval bases around the world.
John’s professional life was spent as a commercial real estate developer in southern California. He began his career at Coldwell Banker and went on to open his own development company with a close college friend.
John’s lifelong passion was sailing and to celebrate his 60th birthday he completed the Trans-Pac, a sailboat race from Los Angeles to Honolulu, on a 40 foot boat. John loved the ocean and sailing and passed that love along to his daughters and grandchildren.
John was athletic and enjoyed long distance running and completed multiple marathons across the country from San Diego to New York City. He was also passionate about cycling and could be found on most weekends riding the hills of Palos Verdes with the Road Warriors.
John moved to Austin, Texas in 2015 and he and his wife Nancy settled in Georgetown, Texas.
