Kenneth Liles Cain of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015. Born in Shreveport, LA, he was 91 years young. He was the son of Ennis Liles Cain, a machinist, and Bertie Kathleen Rockett Cain, a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell.
Kenneth joined the Navy in 1942 as an enlisted man and quickly progressed to Signalman Petty Officer 3rd class while serving campaigns in Africa and Italy. At the end of his tour, Kenneth’s commanding officer recommended him as an excellent candidate to send for Officer Training. Kenneth returned to the US to take Aeronautical Engineering courses at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, Fitchburg State Teachers College in Massachusetts, and then the University of North Carolina eventually becoming a Naval Aviator and Flight Instructor. He was honorably discharged from the Navy at the end of the war with the rank of Lieutenant JG.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 66+ years, Betty Ruth Hanby Cain: son, Larry Liles Cain of Zavalla, Texas and his wife Dixie; daughter, Cindi Cain Fowler of Georgetown, Texas and husband Thomas; and son, Perry Coton Cain of Georgetown, Texas and wife Ghena; grandchildren, Cotonya Elizabeth Schexnaydre Sifford and husband James, Karen Suzanne Schexnaydre and husband Dave, Christopher Liles Cain and Britney Michelle Cain; and great-grandchildren, Johnathan Liles Kennedy, Aidan Dugas Schexnaydre, Mila Chantel Cain, Charlie William Sifford, and Caitlyn Elizabeth Sifford.
Kenneth started his civilian career working for the Federal Aviation Administration in New Orleans at age 23. He transferred to Shreveport and met his “Little Bride” named Betty Ruth Hanby in April 1948 and married soon after on August 8, 1948 (8/8/48 just so he would remember). He retired at age 51 from his position supporting Austin’s Robert Mueller and Bergstrom Air Force Base as the Assistant Chief Air Traffic Controller.
We wish to thank John Schexnaydre, Ron and Kim Warren, and Mary Walters for all the care and comfort they provided to the family during this time of need.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Reliant Rehab of Round Rock and Estrella Oaks of Georgetown for all the care and comfort they provided dad.
