It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Leroy Othel Hall of Liberty Hill, Texas on April 7, 2024, at the age of 98. Born June 3, 1925, to Lemuel Roy Hall and Bertha Edwards Hall in Bertram, TX. At the age of 9, Leroy’s mother passed away leaving his father to raise Leroy and his two brothers Ed and Bob on his own.
In 1943 during his Senior year of high school in Menard, Tx, Leroy was drafted into the Army/Air Corps serving in World War II until 1945. He would fly 47 missions over Japan as a Belly Gunner. Leroy never flew again after returning home from the war; he used to joke that “he used up all his airline tickets in the war.” In 2012, at the age of 87, Leroy’s son-in-law Stephen Borrego, presented him with a Menard High School Diploma that he had missed out on after being drafted his Senior year. This was a very proud moment in his life.
After returning home from the war, Leroy met and married his wife, Thelma Martha Hardin, on July 25, 1946. Together they raised two children, Sybille and Elvin. Leroy was a Sheet Metal worker by trade working for JT Perry’s Sheet Metal and the McCarty Corporation before retiring at 65. In 1971 Leroy and Thelma moved out to their ranch in Liberty Hill, TX embracing all that country life had to offer. He especially enjoyed his deer hunting adventures, raising animals, and a garden that would feed family and friends. Leroy was also a devoted and faithful servant of God. He was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown, Tx where he also taught Men’s Bible classes for many years.
Leroy was one of the good ones. He greeted everyone with a smile. He always had a cup of coffee in his hand. He was a simple man and did not need or want much. He loved his family, loved his ranch, loved a good meal, loved western movies, loved his recliner, and a good flannel shirt. If you were ever lucky enough to sit down next to him you for sure got to hear a good story about his life, the war, hunting, guns, animals, his family or whatever was on his mind that day. He had a good sense of humor and if you were quick on your feet, you would catch his wittiness as well.
Leroy is survived by his daughter Sybille Hall Borrego (Stephen), son Elvin Roy Hall (Donna); grandchildren, Greg Hall, Talitha Leystra Lawrence (Bryant), Lisa Hall Pearce (Zack), Saphira Borrego; great-grandchildren, Laurel, Lakota, Skyler, Sydney, Gavin, Kaylee, Keaton, Cameron, and Savannah; great-great grandchild, Emberlyn. Leroy is preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma Hardin Hall, and brothers, Ed Hall and Bob Hall and their spouses.
Please join us to honor Leroy on Friday April 12, 2024, for a visitation from 5-7pm at Gabriel’s Funeral Home, 393 N Interstate Hwy 35, Georgetown, Tx 78628. A graveside service will be held at 12pm on Saturday April 13, 2024, at Smithwick Cemetery, 11700 RM 1431, Marble Falls, Tx, 78654 with a reception following at Bella Sera Italian Restaurant in Marble Falls at 701 US 281, Marble Falls, Tx
