It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Peter Allen Dossing of Georgetown, Texas, on January 25, 2024, at the age of 80. Born to Gertrude and Elmer Musil in 1943, Peter was adopted by his stepfather William Dossing after the untimely death of Elmer in World War II. He grew up in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, alongside his six younger siblings before moving to Hoffman Estates during his high school years.
Peter’s life was marked by resilience and adaptability. He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served at Ft. Hood in Killeen, TX. It was during this period that he met his first wife, Sharon. Their marriage lasted 15 years, during which they raised two sons, Kevin and Michael, in Austin, Texas, reflecting his dedication to family and parenting.
Later in life, Peter found love again with wife Linda, a widow with three young children of her own; together, they embraced the challenges and joys of a blended family, which included the birth of their son, Travis.
Peter’s final and most cherished chapter in love began in 2002, when he married Nancy, with whom he spent the remaining years in joyous companionship. Together they spent their golden years traveling the world and building a life together in Sun City, Georgetown.
Peter’s humor was a beacon of light; he was always ready with a joke, a witty comment, or a funny story, ensuring that laughter was a constant presence in the lives of those he touched. He was a man of many interests and talents, evident in his participation in chili cook-offs across Texas with his friends under the whimsical banner “Polecat Pete’s Original Varmint Chili.” Although they never clinched a win, their camaraderie and shared love for good times (and beer) were the real trophies of those days.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Peter built a successful career in advertising and marketing. His creative and analytical mind found a perfect balance in this field. Outside of work, he was a skilled woodworker, crafting pieces that were as much a part of him as his infectious laugh.
In retirement, Peter discovered a new passion as a prolific writer. He interviewed veterans and published their personal stories in the Georgetown Sun, preserving their legacies and contributions. He also served as a theatre critic for the newspaper, writing reviews of productions at the Palace Theatre in Georgetown, sharing his insights and love for the arts with the community.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Dossing of Sun City, Georgetown; sons, Kevin (David), Michael (Carole), and Travis (K-La) Dossing; stepchildren, Janna Oliver and Larry Tuggle (Deana); siblings, Linda Kramer (Paul), Jack Dossing (Christine), Donna Graves, Sherry Latham (Mark) and Carol Dossing (Vincent). Preceded in death by his brother, Steve Dossing. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Brandi, Desiree, Maya, Jake, Ellie, Tyler, Lola, Linus, and Elijah; and great-grandchildren, Maci, Wyatt and Mia.
Memorial Services will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 at 9:00 am at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas. Inurnment will follow at 11:00 am at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas.
Peter’s journey was unique and beautiful, and he will forever be remembered in the stories we share and the laughter he left behind.
