

Ralph Ray Granzin, Sr. (Corky) of Midland, Texas returned to his home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2025, following a lengthy illness. Ralph was born in Georgetown, Texas on May 14, 1940, son of Adolph and Sophie Granzin. His actual place of birth was a farmhouse in Walburg, Texas on the family farm.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sue Ellen Middleton Granzin and three children, Ralph Granzin, Jr. (Scooter) and wife Sheila both of Longview, Gerri McGilvray (Gee Gee) and husband Richard of Kilgore, Jeffrey Granzin and wife Pam of Longview, three grandchildren, Gunnar Granzin, Rikki McGilvray-Bock, Makenzie Granzin and three bonus grandchildren including Dustin McGilvray, Clinton Cole McGilvray and Aaron McGilvray, six great grandchildren and his brother Larry Granzin, wife Peggy and nephew Wayne Granzin.
After graduating from Georgetown high school, Ralph took the Marine Corp entrance exam and scored a perfect 100. He received a personal letter of congratulations from then Senator Lyndon B. Johnson. While serving 4 years in the Marine Corp he received medals for rifle Sharpshooter, Good Conduct, and Expert Pistol. Ralph had a mechanical and engineering mind, and he even developed a new pistol cartridge.
Once he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp, he and Sue returned to Texas where he resumed his profession in automotive mechanics. His career spans from owning and operating a service station in Georgetown, being an automotive mechanic and Ford service manager, mechanics instructor at Taylor High School and Temple Junior College, journeyman mechanic at Texas Utilities Mining company. For a few years he and Sue opened a space at Canton Trade Days as Double R Meat Company serving smoked BBQ and side dishes. He had a CDL license which was invaluable in West Texas. He transported vehicles for dealerships then worked at JW Enterprises as a driver in the Oilfield. During the last few years of his life, he assisted Sue in the home daycare business.
Ralph is best known for his likeable personality, profound sense of humor, whit, and his remarkable memory. He loved hunting, fishing, reloading and smoking BBQ.
Lifetime memberships include VFW, NRA and others including years of service in Lutheran Churches. You would always see Ralph in western cowboy clothes and boots with a smile on his face. His childhood hero was Roy Rogers.
Ralph wants everyone to know how much he appreciates everything they have done for him even if it was just a touch.
His family loved him dearly. God bless you, Happy Trails and Semper Fi beloved husband, Dad, Pop, Papa.
A visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, located at 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas, 78628, on November 11, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at the same venue on November 12, 2025 at 12:00 pm. This service will be live streamed at: https://vimeo.com/event/5508945
A committal service will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, located at 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas, 76542, on November 12, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
A Midland, Texas memorial service will be scheduled at a future date.
