Russell Howard Trommer was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and graduated from High School in 1941. During High School he met his future wife, Helen L. Witherow and they married in 1943. As World War II started Russell joined the United States Navy in May of 1944 and was stationed aboard the USS Halsey Powell (DD 686) and served in the Pacific during this time of the war. During this time in Kentucky, Russell was a very active private pilot, machinist, wood worker and gardener. After Russell retired from IBM, he and Helen moved around Kentucky and finally to Texas so he and his wife could be closer to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
